Maria looked at her bank statement this morning. She noticed a charge of fifteen euros. The charge was from a streaming service. Maria did not use this service anymore. She had forgotten to cancel it last month. 'I need to cancel this today,' she thought. Maria opened the streaming app on her phone. She looked for the settings menu. The menu was difficult to find. After five minutes, she found the account settings. There was no cancel button on this page. Maria clicked on 'Subscription' in the menu. The page showed her current plan. She saw a small link at the bottom of the page. The link said 'Manage subscription'. Maria clicked on it and a new page opened. This page asked her to log in again. Maria typed her email and password. She finally found the cancellation options. But first, she had to answer some questions. 'Why do you want to cancel?' the website asked. Maria selected 'I don't use it enough'. Then a new offer appeared on the screen. 'Stay with us! Get fifty percent off for three months!' Maria did not want this offer. She looked for a 'No thanks' button. The button was very small and grey. Maria clicked on it anyway. Another page appeared with more questions. 'How can we improve our service?' it asked. Maria was getting frustrated now. She quickly typed 'I just want to cancel' and continued. Finally, she reached the last page. There was a big red button that said 'Cancel Subscription'. Maria clicked on it with relief. But then a popup window appeared. 'Are you sure you want to leave?' it asked. 'Yes, I am sure!' Maria said to her phone. She clicked 'Yes, cancel my subscription'. The screen showed a message: 'Your subscription is now canceled.' Maria felt very happy. The whole process had taken twenty minutes. 'That was too complicated,' she thought. She then checked her other subscriptions. She had three more services she did not use. 'I will cancel these tomorrow,' Maria decided. She wrote a note in her calendar. The note said: 'Cancel unused subscriptions!' Maria learned an important lesson that day. Always check your bank statements regularly. And cancel services you do not need before they charge you again!
