Maria had always loved reading books. She read every night before going to sleep. One day, she saw a poster at the library. The poster said: 'Join our book club! New members welcome!' Maria thought this was a wonderful idea. She wrote down the date and time of the first meeting. The meeting was on Thursday evening at seven o'clock. Maria was a little nervous about meeting new people. But she loved books, so she decided to go. On Thursday, Maria arrived at the library ten minutes early. She found a small room in the back of the library. There were chairs arranged in a circle. A woman with gray hair was putting books on a table. 'Hello! You must be new,' the woman said with a warm smile. 'Yes, my name is Maria,' she replied. 'Welcome, Maria! I am Helen, and I lead this book club.' Soon, other members started to arrive. There was a young man named Tom who worked as a teacher. An older woman named Susan brought homemade cookies. A man named David came with his daughter Emma. Emma was sixteen years old and loved mystery novels. In total, there were eight people in the room. Helen started the meeting by introducing the book for this month. 'This month, we are reading a story about a small village,' Helen said. She held up a book with a beautiful green cover. Maria was happy because she loved stories about small towns. Each person took a copy of the book from the table. 'We will read the first five chapters for next week,' Helen explained. After the meeting, Maria walked home with a smile on her face. She started reading the book that same night. The story was about a baker who moved to a small village. Maria could not stop reading because the story was so interesting. She finished all five chapters before midnight. The next Thursday came quickly. Maria was excited to discuss the book with the group. This time, she brought some tea and biscuits to share. Everyone sat in the circle and started talking about the story. 'I loved the description of the bakery,' Susan said. 'The characters feel so real,' Tom added. Maria shared her thoughts about the main character. 'I think the baker is looking for a new beginning,' she said. Helen nodded and wrote notes in her notebook. The discussion lasted for almost two hours. Maria was surprised how quickly the time passed. Every week, the book club became more important to her. She made new friends who shared her love for reading. Sometimes they met at the cafe to talk about books. After six months, Maria had read twelve new books. She discovered many authors she had never heard of before. One day, Helen asked Maria to choose the next book for the club. Maria felt honored and spent a whole week deciding. She chose a book about a woman who travels around the world. The group loved her choice and thanked her for it. Reading with others made books even more enjoyable for Maria. She learned to see stories from different points of view. The book club had become an important part of her life. Maria was grateful she had seen that poster in the library. It had opened a door to new friendships and wonderful stories.
