A1 Swedish GrammarNumbers 1-100
Learn to count in Swedish from 1 to 100. Master the Swedish number system which is similar to English but with some unique features. Essential for everyday situations like shopping, telling time, and giving your phone number.
1Numbers 1-12
The numbers 1-12 in Swedish must be memorized as they don't follow a predictable pattern. These are the building blocks for all higher numbers. Note that 'ett' is used when counting or with ett-words, while 'en' is used with en-words. For example: 'ett äpple' (one apple) but 'en bok' (one book).

2Numbers 13-19
The teens in Swedish are formed by combining the single digit with '-ton' (from 'tio' meaning ten). This is similar to the English '-teen' ending. Some numbers have slight spelling changes when combined.
Numbers 13-19
| Number | Swedish | Pattern |
|---|---|---|
| 13 | tretton | tre + ton |
| 14 | fjorton | fjor + ton |
| 15 | femton | fem + ton |
| 16 | sexton | sex + ton |
| 17 | sjutton | sju + ton |
| 18 | arton | ar + ton |
| 19 | nitton | ni + ton |
Note irregular forms: fjorton (not fyraton) and arton (not åttaton)

3Tens (20-90)
The tens are formed by adding '-tio' to the base number. Swedish uses twenty, thirty, etc. similar to English but with the 'tio' ending (from 'tio' = ten). 'Tjugo' (20) is the only irregular ten that doesn't follow this pattern.
Tens
| Number | Swedish | Pattern |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | tjugo | irregular |
| 30 | trettio | tre + ttio |
| 40 | fyrtio | fyr + tio |
| 50 | femtio | fem + tio |
| 60 | sextio | sex + tio |

tjugo = twenty (irregular)
4Compound Numbers (21-99) and 100
For compound numbers like 21, 35, 48, Swedish simply puts the ten first, then the single digit - no 'and' needed. This is simpler than English! One hundred is 'hundra' in Swedish.
Compound Numbers
| Number | Swedish | Breakdown |

| 21 | tjugoen/tjugoett | tjugo + en/ett |
