Emma woke up with a toothache. The pain was on the right side of her mouth. She tried to eat breakfast, but it hurt too much. Emma knew she needed to see a dentist. She called the dental clinic at nine o'clock. 'Hello, I have a toothache,' Emma said. The receptionist asked her to come at two o'clock. Emma took some pain medicine and waited. At one thirty, she drove to the clinic. The waiting room was clean and bright. There were magazines on a small table. Emma was nervous and her hands were shaking. She had always been afraid of dentists. A nurse called her name after ten minutes. Emma followed her to a small room. There was a big chair in the middle of the room. 'Please sit down,' the nurse said. Emma sat in the chair and looked around. She saw many tools on a metal tray. The dentist came in and smiled at her. 'Hello, Emma. I am Doctor Roberts,' he said. 'Can you tell me where it hurts?' Emma pointed to her right side. 'Open your mouth, please,' the doctor said. Emma opened her mouth wide. The dentist used a small mirror to look inside. He also shone a bright light into her mouth. 'I see the problem,' he said after a moment. 'You have a cavity in your back tooth.' Emma felt worried when she heard this. 'Do not worry,' the dentist said kindly. 'I will give you an injection so you feel no pain.' The injection hurt a little, but it was quick. After a few minutes, Emma's mouth felt numb. The dentist started to work on her tooth. She heard the sound of the drill. It was loud, but she did not feel any pain. The nurse gave her water to rinse her mouth. Emma spit into a small sink next to her. The dentist put a white filling in her tooth. 'Bite down gently,' he told her. Emma bit down and it felt strange. 'Does it feel right?' the dentist asked. 'Yes, I think so,' Emma said. 'We are finished,' the dentist said with a smile. Emma felt relieved that it was over. The dentist gave her some advice. 'Brush your teeth twice a day,' he said. 'And do not eat too many sweets.' Emma promised to take better care of her teeth. She paid at the reception desk. The treatment cost fifty euros. The receptionist gave her an appointment card. 'Come back in six months for a checkup,' she said. Emma walked to her car feeling much better. Her mouth was still numb, but the toothache was gone. She was glad she had finally visited the dentist. Next time, she would not wait so long.
